ROSALINA (Melaleuca Ericifolia)

History and Character

Native to Australia is a huge shrub, 6-9m/20-30 ft. tall, with a bushy top and grayish papery bark, with soft, alternate, smooth and narrow linear leaves. Similar to Melaleuca alterfolia, rosalina readily produces new top growth after severe cutting.

It grows in low lying swamps, along creeks and behind sand dunes. It does all the same things as tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia)., but its high linalol content makes it easy on the skin. It is a gentle Yin oil , very cooling and relaxing and tender. Thus I very much prefer it for dogs.

Bladder infections

Boils

Fevers

Respiratory infections

Wounds

I most often use Rosalina for:

Infected wounds or respiratory conditions, especially if the immune system is low due to stress.

Extraction and Characteristics

Steam distillation from leaves and twigs.

Fragrance:

Sharp, camphoraceous, slightly sweet herbaceous.

Actions:

Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, detoxicant, expectorant, febrifuge, sedative.

Safety & Cautions:

Generally held to be non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing.

Maximum dilution

3 drops in 5 ml/1 ts. Can be used undiluted in emergency first aid.
